Graffiti has a long history. Derived from the Italian word graffio or scratch, graffiti or  markings have been found in ancient Roman ruins, in the remains of Mayan cities and on rocks in Spain dating to the 16th century, and in medieval English churches. We mark what we want to remember, what's important to us.
